Take Immediate Action on Plastic Reduction

Owning to the severe plastic pollution, the most high-profile environmental challenge of the time, the voluntary plastic reduction is regarded as an instant solution.
Concerning the domestic plastic bag output from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, there are 130 thousand plastic bags produced annually in Taiwan. Calculated as 0.3mm thickness per each, 2000 million plastic bags are used in a year and astonishingly equal to the height of 68 Mount Everest. The statistics of the United Nations (UN) indicated that 12 million tons of plastics enter the world’s oceans each year. The impact plastics can have on the marine environment is devastating and also indirectly endanger our life and safety.
A plastic bag takes 200 to 1000 years to be completely decomposed.
The single-use plastic production has soared in the last few years. ‘Banning it for dine-in in 2020, levying it in 2025, and entirely banning it in 2030’ is the policy intervention of single-use plastics in Taiwan. Nevertheless, the result of plastic elimination has not kept pace but moved backwards. During the pandemic outbreak, medical waste and takeaway packaging led to an increasing amount of plastic use. Thus, forming concrete commitments for enterprises on reusable product design and sustainable material selections in environmental benefits is necessary.
The raw material of MAG’s PLA biodegradable film is made from Ingeo natural plastics of NatureWorks in the US. Compared to other materials, PLA can minimize 60% of greenhouse gas emissions and lower 48% of energy consumption in production. Moreover, Ingeo polymer is certified by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). PLA film is commonly applied on food packaging bags and pulp trays or containers. After burial and compost, it can be decomposed fully into H₂O and CO₂ and decrease plastic use and carbon footprints effectively. MAG’s green products like PET film and iridescent film are also 100% MIT and recyclable.

Significantly curbing the use of plastic is urgent.
Given that plastic contamination is a threat to the environment, society and economy, phasing out single-use plastic and encouraging eco-design are public consciousness. Proactively figuring out an innovative alternative and addressing the whole life of plastic from production to disposal facilitate circular economy and carbon emission reduction. MAG believes that implementing plastic sustainability, tackling the environmental disaster, and welcoming easily recyclable products to the market is our responsibility. The ultimate aim is to conserve biodiversity and preserve the health of the planet for the next generations.
