MAG's newly developed "Sakura Pink" nonwoven fabric, applied to customer-grade medical face masks.

The global spread of COVID-19 has led to a surge in face mask options, with various designs flooding the market. Among them, KF94 masks have gained widespread popularity due to their distinctive 3D shape and widely circulated claims of filtering out 94% of airborne particles. But are the KF94 or 4D masks sold in Taiwan safe—and do they meet proper certification standards?

What Does "KF94" Actually Mean?

"KF94" refers to one of the official filtration grades certified by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). The three levels include:

KF80: ≥80% particle filtration efficiency
KF94: ≥94% particle filtration efficiency
KF99: ≥99% particle filtration efficiency

Importantly, "KF94" refers to performance—not to the mask's design. Many masks marketed online as "KF94" may not have passed Korean certification or Taiwan's own stringent safety standards. This mismatch creates confusion and potential risk for consumers.

How to Choose a Safe KF94-style Mask?

To meet consumer demand, many manufacturers now produce KF94-style masks, also known as fish-type, 3D, or 4D masks. While the shape is trendy, safety depends on more than just design.

In Taiwan, medical masks must comply with strict regulations set by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, including:

1. Verified particle filtration and differential pressure performance
2. Compliance with medical or dust mask standards
3. Clear "double stamp" labelling for traceability

Many certified Taiwanese manufacturers now offer KF94-style designs that meet local medical-grade requirements. MAG strongly recommends consumers purchase from verified, qualified sources to ensure safety and compliance.
